The Nepal Cultural Society of British Columbia (NCSBC) extends our deepest condolences to the victims, families, and communities devastated by the catastrophic flash floods that struck the Nepal-China border on August 26, 2026. With over 570 lives lost and nearly 2,000 individuals reported missing and counting, this disaster has brought unimaginable grief to our homeland.
Our hearts also go out to the international travelers caught in this tragedy, and specifically to our fellow Canadians. Currently, 32 Canadian citizens and permanent residents remain unaccounted for, including couples from right here in British Columbia. It is deeply concerning that no Canadians were among the 121 foreign nationals recently rescued. We stand in absolute solidarity with their worried families who are desperately awaiting news.
A Call for Government Action
We strongly urge the Provincial Government of British Columbia and the Federal Government of Canada to escalate search and rescue efforts to locate the missing Canadians. Furthermore, we call on our governments to immediately deploy emergency disaster assistance and humanitarian support directly to the Government of Nepal.
NCSBC Emergency Relief Fund: How You Can Help
In response to this devastating crisis, NCSBC is actively collecting community donations to send direct financial aid. 100% of your donation will be transferred directly to the Nepal Prime Minister’s Disaster Relief Fund.
Please note that because NCSBC is registered as a non-profit organization rather than a charitable organization, we cannot provide tax-exemption receipts. However, you can be completely assured that there are zero overhead or administrative expenses deducted by NCSBC—every single dollar you give goes directly to relief efforts in Nepal.
How to Donate:
- E-Transfer: Send your contribution to [email protected]. Please ensure you type “Nepal flood relief” in the message or memo section.
- Direct Deposit: You can deposit funds directly into the Nepal Cultural Society of BC account at Vancity. Please ensure you write “Nepal flood relief” in the reference line.
Thank you for your incredible generosity, compassion, and community solidarity during this dark time.
