The Nepal Cultural Society of BC (NCSBC) is humbled and deeply grateful to announce that our “United for Nepal: Disaster Relief Dinner,” held on September 27, 2026, was a tremendous success.
Our community, friends, and supporters came together in a powerful show of solidarity to support those affected by the devastating flash floods and landslides in Nepal.
We were honoured to be joined by a distinguished group of leaders who stood with our community during this critical time. The evening featured heartfelt remarks from the Hon. Randeep Sarai, Sukh Dhaliwal, Honorary Consul for Nepal Christopher Considine, Surrey Mayor Brenda Locke, Minister and MLA Jessie Sunner, MLA Amna Shah, MLA Jagrup Brar, and MLA Garry Begg.
We also received a very special video message of support from Premier David Eby, underscoring British Columbia’s solidarity with the people of Nepal.
During his address, NCSBC President Raju Bhattarai expressed his immense gratitude to all attendees, donors, volunteers, and supporters for their steadfast support.
He also took the opportunity to advocate for climate justice, highlighting a painful reality: while Nepal contributes only about 0.05% of global carbon emissions, the people of the Himalayas are paying an enormous price for a climate crisis they did not create.
He emphasized that the Himalayas serve as the “water tower of Asia,” supporting the lives and livelihoods of millions of people across the region. Nepal is not asking for special treatment, but for fairness, global responsibility, and meaningful action as climate-related disasters continue to destroy lives, homes, communities, and critical infrastructure.
A very special thank you goes to Mr. Kultar Ji, owner of the Taj Park Convention Centre, for generously providing the venue for this important fundraiser. His generosity and support played a significant role in making the evening possible.
